What do you want to do with your model?

Choose the next job first. A smaller file or a different extension does not always mean a better asset.

Take geometry into a slicer

Start with GLB or OBJ, export STL at a known size and check the mesh before slicing. Conversion does not add wall thickness or close holes.

A small tool that fits your workflow

Convert, check the result and keep control of your original asset.

Your files stay with you

Local files are read and converted on your device. No model upload is needed; public sample files are downloaded only when you choose them.

Free, without an account

Convert an existing mesh without signing in or spending generation credits.

See what changed

Rotate the source and exported geometry before downloading. The format table tells you exactly what is kept or omitted.

An explicit next step

Set STL dimensions, cancel a conversion or inspect the exported mesh. Errors have a visible message and you can select another file.

GLB vs OBJ vs STL: what the formats can hold

This table describes the formats. The four Fomrix conversion routes export static geometry; a format's capabilities do not mean every property is transferred.

GLB

Binary glTF (GLB)

A binary container for a glTF scene. A self-contained GLB can carry geometry, materials, images and animation in one file.

glTF uses meters for linear distances. STL export explicitly rescales the bounding box; OBJ export retains the numeric geometry coordinates.

GLB
OBJ

Wavefront OBJ

A text-based surface description built from vertex coordinates and faces. It is widely used to move meshes between modeling applications.

An OBJ generally does not declare a dependable physical unit. Check import scale and a known measurement in your next application.

OBJ
STL

STL triangle surface

A collection of triangles describing the outside of a model. It is a common handoff format for 3D printing slicers.

STL does not store a unit. This tool writes the size you choose as millimeter coordinates; confirm it on import into a slicer.

STL

Prepare a file the browser can handle

A small file can still have dense geometry. Both file size and triangle count affect memory use on a phone or laptop.

One mesh file at a time

Choose a local .glb, .obj or .stl for a supported route. ZIP packages, remote URLs and batches are not accepted by this tool.

100 MB / 1 million triangles

These are conversion limits, not performance guarantees. Close heavy previews and try a simpler export on devices with limited memory.

Keep the source asset

Download the result before leaving the page. Fomrix does not upload or save a local conversion to your account; preserve source files and any material images yourself.

Conversion, viewing or generation?

Start from the file you have and the job you need to finish. Each tool solves a different part of the workflow.

I already have a model

Inspect it in its original format when you only need to check appearance or shape. Convert only when the next program needs another extension.

View a GLB asset

I need a print check

Export STL at a known size, then inspect the geometry. Repair holes or thin surfaces externally and return for another check.

I only have an idea or image

An image is not an existing mesh. Create a model in Studio first. AI generation uses trial or purchased credits; these file converters are free.

The 3D terms behind the conversion

A few terms explain why the same shape can look different or behave differently in another application.

Triangle mesh
A surface made from three-corner faces. Conversion changes its representation; it does not restore the original CAD construction.
UV coordinates
A mapping from surface vertices to positions in a texture image. The OBJ exports here do not contain that mapping.
MTL
An OBJ companion file describing materials and image paths. It must travel with its referenced images in workflows that export it.
Watertight mesh
A closed surface without open boundaries. Passing that check still leaves wall thickness, intersections and slicing to review.
Non-manifold edge
An edge whose connected faces cannot form a normal continuous surface. These can cause slicer or editing problems.
Scene transform
A node's position, rotation or scale. Baking a transform writes the resulting location into the exported vertex coordinates.

Conversion questions

Is 3D file conversion free?

Yes. The supported GLB, OBJ and STL conversions run locally and do not use generation credits. Creating a new model with AI is a separate credit-based workflow.

Can you convert FBX, STEP, USDZ or 3MF?

These formats are not supported by these tools. Keep a source backup and use a compatible application such as Blender for FBX, or a CAD application for STEP. Renaming a file extension does not convert its contents.

Will my model keep its textures?

The converters here export geometry only. Keep the original GLB for its materials, textures and animation. STL has no standard texture support; this OBJ exporter does not create an MTL or texture package.
